How To Paint Kitchen Cabinets Perfectly Every Time

Putting on a fresh vibrant coat of paint on kitchen cabinets gives your kitchen and your home a fresh new look that can completely transform them. While it can seem to be a simple project, it does involve a number of challenges.

Here are some important things to keep in mind when painting your kitchen cabinets.

Have a proper plan before beginning

Set aside enough time and a backup area to use as the kitchen during the length of the project which can take anywhere from 4 to 7 days to complete. Also, understand how the type of wood used in your cabinets will affect how your painted cabinets look and what to expect after completion.

Select the correct tools

Select the right brush, foam roller, and jet spray if you are looking for a smooth finish. Keep a poster with the color, and the type of paint you have selected on a poster in your kitchen for a few days before beginning the project to make sure you are happy with it. You can also select more expensive paints as you will be painting a relatively small surface area.

Prepare the kitchen cabinets

Firstly, make sure you remove all the doors and drawers and label them with masking tape as they would all need to go back to their original position. Next sand the rough edges and surfaces to further create a smooth finish. This is a crucial step to allow for the paint to adhere to the surface. Clean all the doors and drawers using a degreaser before thoroughly removing all the debris and fine dust particles from the painting area. Finally, elevate the drawer you will be painting on a painter’s pyramid to cover all the edges and corners

Paint your cabinets

Always apply a stain-blocking primer to allow for better adhesion, more paint durability, and additional protection for the material being painted. Next start with painting the back of your drawers and doors before finishing the front to prevent any wet paint from dripping on to them or smudges. Begin using a paintbrush, then a foam roller, before adding finishing touches and a final layer with a spray gun.

Lastly, make sure you give your freshly painted cabinets sufficient time to rest and dry up completely before reinstalling them carefully, making sure to not chip the wood.
